Activities

The Graduate Program in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics organizes a number of activities to train our students in critical analysis of research results and in presentation skills, because we strongly believe that these skills are essential for a successful career in science. The faculty actively participate in these activities.

MMG Retreat

Once a year the MMG students, post-docs, and faculty have an out-of-town retreat. At the retreat students present their research ideas and results. In addition, there is ample opportunity for social and athletic interactions between students and faculty. In recent years the MMG retreat was held at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes. The MMG retreat includes a keynote address by an outside speaker.

MMG Journal Club

We have a very active Journal club in which our students, post-docs, and faculty discuss particularly interesting and timely papers in microbiology and/or molecular genetics.

MMG Student Summer Seminar Series

During the summer our journal club is replaced with our student seminar series. This gives the students in the Microbiology and Molecular Genetics program the chance to practice their presentation skills, and get constructive feed back on their research.

MMG Student Colloquia

Once a month one of our graduate students presents his/her research objectives and results to the other graduate students. This voluntary get together is organized by the students themselves, and provides a good opportunity to practice presentation skills and get constructive feedback in an informal setting.

MMG Departmental Seminars

Outstanding scientists from around the world give seminars every Thursday at 4 pm in the MMG department. Click here for the latest program.
